INTRODUCING HENRIQUE SÁ PESSOA

Henrique Sá Pessoa trained at the Cordon Bleu Institute and in 2009 he opened Alma, which was awarded two Michelin stars in 2018, making Sá Pessoa only the third chef in Portuguese history to receive this accolade. Sá Pessoa also owns a relaxed Portuguese restaurant Taspico which opened in 2017 and is the concept chef for Chiado, a Portuguese restaurant with an Asian influence in Macau, and ARCA, the restaurant at art’otel Amsterdam which opened in 2021. In February 2023 he became concept chef of JOIA at art’otel London in Battersea. In 2024, Henrique opened Sereia in Miami, his first restaurant in the US and entered the Michelin Guide in the first year as Miami’s newest hot spot. In Portugal, Sá Pessoa is recognised for his appearances on the cooking show Ingrediente Secreto and Chef de Família, and further accolades include winning Portugal’s Chef of the Year in 2005, GQ’s Chef of the Year in 2007, and being placed 38th in The Best Chef Awards in 2021. 

JOIA, LONDON

Meaning ‘jewel’ in Portuguese, JOIA is the first London restaurant by award-winning two Michelin-starred Portuguese chef Henrique Sá Pessoa and is inspired by Henrique’s culinary heritage and travels across the Portuguese Iberian Peninsula. 

ARCA, AMSTERDAM

Meaning ‘chest’ in Portuguese, ARCA introduces a casual Portuguese sharing plates experience infused with modern flavours and Asian inspirations.

SEREIA, MIAMI

Henrique opened SEREIA Miami in 2024 as his first restaurant in the US. SEREIA quickly earned status as one of Miami’s latest hotspots, entering the Michelin Guide quickly in its first year. Expect seafood focused cuisine, fine wines, great vibes and a luxurious setting.
